Sunday Reflections and Gratitude: Week 1

Sunday is the perfect day to relax, recharge, and reflect. One of the healthiest things that we can do for our mental and spiritual well-being is to express gratitude and contentment. I would like to take a bit of time in this installment to express my thanks for a few of the many blessings in my life.

We all have wants and desires. Some of us have even dreamed big and set ambitious goals. However, it is important to remember that those aspirations are about the future, but all we actually ever really have is right now.  I am thankful for my life, and I try to make a point everyday to be content.  I have enough. My needs are met and my family is well.  Each day I am fortunate enough to rise from my bed, I have an opportunity to experience joy. To reiterate, this is an opportunity. I can choose between joy and despair.  I can choose between love and hate. I can choose between faith and hopelessness.

Life is too short to spend obsessing over the things that I do not have especially when I have so much more than so many others.  This goes far beyond superficial things such as appearance or monetary net worth. I thank God that I can walk, for so many people are lame. I thank God that I can see, for so many people are blind. I thank God for my friends, wife, and children, when so many people become estranged.  I thank God for my life, for so many people did not open their eyes and rise from last night’s slumber.

There is always more to achieve, and I will move according to the steps ordered by my creator. There are many things that I don’t have, and every single one of those things is by definition a thing that I don’t need right now because if that were true I would not be alive. So I will not complain. I will find peace and satisfaction in every day that I am allowed to contribute to this world. I will always strive to perpetually operate in love, and I will consider any day that I get to serve at least one other person in this world a successful one. Have a great week.
